Zichen (Sarah) Xiang has always had a passion for exploring the world. Growing up traveling with her parents to different countries and cities, she discovered the importance of language as a bridge between cultures. Through these experiences, Sarah realized that learning a new language not only improves communication but also enhances problem-solving skills and sparks creativity. For her, the journey of multilingual learning has always been both magical and deeply meaningful.
In the summer of 2022, Sarah brought her younger brother to Mrs. Y’s After School program and was inspired by the eagerness of the children there. As a high school student, she recognized that she could share her own knowledge by teaching younger students introductory lessons in languages and STEM. Over the next several months, Sarah began creating her own lesson plans and teaching materials. The trial classes were a success—children loved the interactive learning, and parents were highly supportive.
At the same time, Sarah was serving as a volunteer with the Eastvale Kiwanis Club, whose leaders strongly encouraged her educational efforts. With their guidance and support, in August 2023 Sarah founded SLAC (Student Leadership and Community Club).
SLAC was built on the belief that service and education can inspire growth, connection, and leadership, with the club’s mission: To serve the community and challenge ourselves to grow and glow beyond limits.
